Project Summary:
A 3 ft x 4 ft commemorative banner was designed to celebrate a student-athlete’s achievement of reaching 100 career wins in high school. The final piece delivered a bold, school-branded visual centerpiece for display in the gymnasium, honoring both the athlete and the program’s legacy.

The Challenge (Problem):
The goal was to create a visually striking banner that celebrated a major athletic milestone while remaining aligned with the school’s established brand identity. The design needed to incorporate the school logo, mascot, and official purple and gold color palette, while standing out in a large gymnasium setting. It was essential to balance multiple visual elements—photography, typography, and special effects—without overwhelming the viewer or losing clarity from a distance.

My Role:
I independently led the project from concept to final production. I was responsible for creative direction, photo editing, typography selection, layout design, and final print preparation using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Lightroom.

 

The Approach (Process):
I began by gathering and reviewing photography to determine the strongest hero image for the centerpiece. Initial layout concepts were drafted to establish hierarchy and balance.

• Concept Development: Explored composition options that emphasized the athlete while incorporating the school mascot and logo.

• Visual Hierarchy: Used varied font sizes and weight to guide the viewer’s eye, ensuring the “100 Wins” milestone was immediately prominent.

• Photo Treatment: Kept the primary image in full color to create a focal point, while selectively removing backgrounds and converting supporting images to black and white for depth and contrast.

• Graphic Enhancements: Layered smoke effects and glitter accents to add energy and celebration without distracting from the core message.

• Brand Consistency: Integrated the school’s purple and gold color scheme throughout to maintain cohesion and ensure the banner felt authentic to the athletic program.

 

The Solution:
The final 3 ft x 4 ft banner featured a dynamic, layered composition anchored by a bold central portrait. Custom typography, textured smoke overlays, and celebratory glitter accents created movement and visual impact. The design was print-ready at high resolution, ensuring sharp clarity and vibrant color reproduction when displayed in the gymnasium.

 

Results & Impact:
The banner became a focal point, prominently recognizing the athlete’s milestone achievement. Its strong visual hierarchy and school-branded presentation elevated the celebration, reinforcing school pride and contributing to a memorable recognition moment for the athlete, teammates, and community. Furthermore, the recipient commented, "I LOVE it! It turned out perfect!  You are awesome! You did such a great job!" This banner led to more banners being designed after others saw it.
